Does the Bible Describe Nuclear War?
Over the past several weeks I have written many articles that address elements of Nuclear war described in the bible; however, it is buried in several hours of other content. This post will distill the evidence of Nuclear War sprinkled across those posts into one location. I will also add some new content such as the relationship to Yeshua cursing the Fig Tree.
As scary as nuclear war is, He has not appointed us to his wrath, curse, or plague of fire. Those who repent, turn from their sins, and have the testimony of Yeshua will be saved, raptured, and taken to Zion in the midst of the coming Nuclear war which, if my interpretation of the timeline is correct, could be as soon as Fall of 2024.
Bible Defines Words Symbolically
YHVH uses words and phrases of his prophets symbolically as a means of hyperlinking concepts together and conveying meaning beyond language translations. You cannot read the bible using only the dictionary meaning of words, but must always ask how the bible has defined words in use. Then when you see those words being used in the proper context you will gain wisdom and understanding that would otherwise be missed.
Here is a brief overview of some of the verses that this post will cover.
- Revelation 6 — Great Sword / Mushroom Clouds / Fallout Shelters
- Jeremiah 50 — Links the Sword to Fire that consumes everything
- Zechariah 5 — Describes Nuclear Missile Dimensions and the Warhead as Wickedness and it flys between heaven and earth.
- Isaiah 9 — Defines Wickedness like a wild fire with smoke that “rolls up”
- Isaiah 34 — Describes Sword Bathed (dipped) in Heaven (space)
- Zechariah 14 — Describes people being vaporized where they stand
- Mark 11:12 — Parable of the Cursed Fig Tree
- Matthew 24 — Says run to the mountains (fallout shelters), with haste
The Great Sword of the Red Horse
And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. — Revelation 6:4
The “great sword” is a symbol and we must use other verses in the Bible to decode the true meaning of this sword. Let’s start with more context from Revelation 6.
And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth. — Revelation 6:8
Here we have the sword mentioned again, this time killing 25% of the earth. One thing to remember is that the phrase “beasts of the earth” refers to gentile nations and not literal wild animals.
What we see here is that the four horsemen are influencing the gentile nations to a global war using a “great sword”. Since it is clear that no nations on earth use literal swords any more, we must presume that “great sword” means some terrible weapon of massive power.
And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake (shaking/commotion); and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; — Revelation 6:12
The word translated as earthquake means “great shaking” and can apply equally to earth quakes and other kinds of violent shaking. I will show other verses that clearly link the sword to the “shaking of the earth” and thereby making the distinction moot.
A nuclear explosion can cause an earthquake and even an aftershock sequence. However, earthquakes induced by explosions have been much smaller than the explosion, and the aftershock sequence produces fewer and smaller aftershocks than a similar size earthquake. — USGS
And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
The phrase “fig tree casting her figs” is another symbol that links this verse to other passages in the Bible which support the Nuclear interpretation, we will visit those passages later.
When a nuke is dropped there is a “mighty wind” which can reach 300 miles per hour.
The “stars of heaven falling unto earth” is a picture that could easily describe nuclear Missiles falling from space or Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles (MIRVs).
And the heaven (sky) departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places (shaken).
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens (caves) and in the rocks of the mountains; — Revelation 6:15
After just one chapter we have a pretty good interpretation supporting nuclear war during tribulation. Lets continue.
Hebrew Homographs Woman vs Fire Offering
Before getting into Zechariah 5, a brief introduction to Hebrew homographs is required. A homograph are two words with the same spelling, but perhaps different pronunciations. The original texts lacked the vowel points which were not added until about 600 AD. This means that the vowel points are in part “tradition of men” and part “best guess given context”. Substituting “woman” for the other translations of the word creates some humorous translations.
Sword is Symbolic of All conusming Fire
A sword is upon the Chaldeans (Babylonains), says YHVH, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. A sword is upon the liars, and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed. A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as a אשה / Fire/ FIRE OFFERING(completely burnt to ash): a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed. — Jeremiah 50:35–37
You can imagine the humor of a sword that turns liars, mighty men, horses, chariots, and all the mingled people into women! Nevertheless, this is how most most translations interpret the verse.
I submit to you that this verse clearly links the sword used to destroy Babylon the Great at the start of the tribulation to Nuclear weapons. The sword is turning everything into fire and burning it completely.
Zechariah’s Flying Scroll
Again I looked up, and I saw a scroll (megillah) flying in the air!
Megillah are single roll scrolls.
And the angel said to me, “What do you see?” And I answered, “I see a flying scroll (megillah, single roll); its length is twenty cubits (34 feet) and its width (circumference) is ten cubits (17 feet, 5.5’ diameter).” — Zech 5:1–2 AMP
Then he said unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it. — Zech 5:3 KJV
I will bring it forth, saith the Lord of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of(as) the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with the timber thereof and the stones thereof. — Zech 5:4 KJV
After reviewing the Hebrew, I believe Zech 5:4 could also be read as: “It shall enter the house like/as a thief to the household of the one who swears falsely by My Name.“ This rendition would make a closer tie to the second coming being like a thief in the night, but either translation carries the message that the house will be fully consumed, including the stones!.
Then the angel that talked with me went forth, and said unto me, Lift up now thine eyes, and see what is this that goeth forth. And I said, What is it? And he said, This is an ephah [6 gallon container/payload of dry goods] that goeth forth. He said moreover, This is their resemblance through all the earth. Zech 5:6 KJV
Note that there are many of these found all around the world. This is not a singular “spiritual” scroll, this is something found on earth.
And, behold, there was lifted up a talent(75 lb) of lead(uranium decays to lead): and this is a אשה (fire offering, to be fully consumed) that sitteth in the midst of the ephah (payload). Zech 5:7 KJV
Then he said, “This is Wickedness!” And he threw it back down into the middle of the ephah (payload) and threw the lead cover on its opening. Zech 5:8 AMP
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two אשה (fires/flames), and the wind was in their(the flame’s) wings (feathers/trail); for they had wings(feathers) like the wings of a stork (long trail of feathers): and they lifted up the ephah (payload) between the earth and the heaven. Zech 5:9 KJV
I said to the angel who was speaking with me, “Where are they taking the ephah (payload)?” Zech 5:10 AMP
In the following verse, I include some alternate STRONGS definitions with links to the underlined words.
And he said unto me, To build it (a fire ) a house (within) the land of Shinar (Babylon): and it shall be established (completed, fixed, made ready, arrived, delivered), and set there upon(deposit, left, placed, thrown upon) her own base (spot/the ground). Zech 5:11 KJV
However, I think the last verse, given the context, would be better translated while remaining consistent with Hebrew meanings as:
And he said to me, to build (a fire) within the land of Babylon: and it shall arrive and be thrown down upon the ground.
Given how hard it would be to describe an ICBM to someone 200 years ago, imagine being shown this 2500 years ago. Now imagine being the scribe responsible for translating this over so many years. The measurements and description of the shape alone narrow things down today but nothing like it existed even 100 years ago. This is the only interpretation of the text that makes sense compared to the nonsense of stuffing a woman in a 6 gallon basket with 75 pounds of lead and putting a lead cover on it because she is so wicked!
Wickedness
Then he said, “This is Wickedness!” And he threw it back down into the middle of the ephah (6 gallon payload) and threw the lead cover on its opening. Zech 5:8 AMP
Remember to always let the Bible define terms, especially when a term is used by an Angel to describe 75 bounds of lead in an ICBM.
Surely wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns, it sets the forest thickets ablaze, so that it rolls upward in a column of smoke. — Isaiah 9:18
And how exactly does the Bible define “briers and thorns”?
Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns… They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. — Mark 4
Vaporized Where You Stand
And this shall be the plague (curse described by Zech 5) wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. — Zechariah 14:12
The Cursed Fig Tree
The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance (far future?) a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. — Mark 11:12
And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely (out of season) figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. — Revelation 6
In the morning (The Next Day), as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. — Mark 11:20
For the indignation (anger/judgement) of YHVH is upon all the nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. 4 And the host of heaven (sun, moon, stars) shall be dissolved (faded/clouded), and the heavens (sky) shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host (everything in the sky, planes, bombs, missiles) shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as the falling fig from the fig tree. — Isaiah 34:3-4
For my sword (ICBM), shall be bathed in heaven (carried between heaven/space and earth), and it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse (Zech 5), to judgement. — Isaiah 34:5
Notice the parallel between “untimely figs” mentioned in Revelation 6 and the cursed tree “not being the season for figs”? Also notice that the curse was that no one ever eat fruit from you again is a parallel to the fall of Babylon described both in Revelation 18 and Jeremiah 51.
Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said:
“Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry:
“‘Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come!’ … With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.” — Revelation 18:10,21
And they shall not take from thee a stone (radioactive?) for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith the YHVH.
… you shall bind a stone to this book and cast it into the mist of Euphrates, and you shall say, “thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring”. — Jeremiah 51:23,63
There is only one thing that I know of that can destroy a world empire, Babylon the Great, in a single hour as a result of an alliance of nations being turned against her. Nuclear War.
Babylon the great falls in a single day, just like the fig tree wilted to the root in a single day.
The Abomination that Causes Desolation
“So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the housetop go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!” — Matthew 24:15–19
And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens (caves) and in the rocks of the mountains; — Revelation 6:15
I think there is a very good chance that the Abomination that Causes Desolation is a nuclear bomb dropped on the two witnesses at the midpoint of the tribulation. Notice the instruction to flee to the mountains with haste. We know that Rev 6 says that people hid in caves in the mountains, so I think mountains is a symbol that links these verses together.
I also think that the phrase (“let the reader understand”) is a strong indiciation that future context is required to understand the abomination. Now that we have the context of the past 80 years we can understand exactly what these verses are talking about.
Conclusion
When ever you are reading about the future judgment and the symbol “sword” is mentioned, keep in mind that it could be referring to the Great Sword that gets bathed in space (heaven), and consumes everything including timber and stone and vaporizes people where they stand.
I think it is beyond clear that when YHVH destroys the earth by fire, it will involve the use of Nuclear weapons.
